Sony Cybershot DSC-RX1 Camera

SONY CYBERSHOT DSC-RX1 CAMERA

The  RX1 is the first digitally compact camera with a full frame sensor, making it a true photo pioneer ,but those pro friendly specs don't come cheap.Does it do enough to justify it's pricey price tag of R40 000?

It may a point and shoot camera but the RX1 is neither light nor pocket-friendly.It weighs around twice as much as most high end compacts, and the lens adds a substantial bit of bulk. The build quality is top notch, though, with a metal body and a finish so classy it could grace the Camp Nou.

The RX1's 3in/2.5cm screen is one of the sharpest camera LCD's around. With 1,229,000 pixels on show, images really pop on it.I t isn't touch sensitive, which might come as a bit of a surprise but then touchscreens controls wouldn't really fit this cam's 'pro' image

Blackberry Z10

Blackberry Z10

The Blackberry Z10 may  well be the last chance that Blackberry has to win us us over. With a HD screen ,revamped BBM and shiny new BB10 OS look promising-but is it all a case of too little, too late?

The Blackberry Z10 is priced at R7000.The Z10's solid creak-free build and pleasing textured back immediately banish memories of toy-like Qwerty phones. It's a nice weight and size too, though I can't help feeling that those bezels could do with a trim and the big Blackberry Logo is a little in-yer-face.

Blackberry Z10 Also known as the L-Series
The 1.5GHz dual-core engine and 2GB of RAM keep the Z10 zipping nicely when mult-tasking.Shame Battery life isn't so great ,with a battery life of up to 9hours in a video run test. However you may think that 9 hours of battery life is sectacular but with all the features that this phone has to offer and daily use of notifications switched on the battery unfortunately desnt last. With this being said Blackberry have been focusing on the basics with the Z10 ,The camera isn't as feature-packed as those on most flagships and BB 10's Maps omit public transport and satellite views, but perhaps more usefully you do get a swappable battery and microSD slot to add up to 64GB of storage.

HTC Windows Phone 8S

   HTC Windows Phone

Say what you want about the current crop of Windows 8 phones, they're nothing if eye catching. The 4in/10cm 8S continues the fine tradition of HTC's own flagship 8X ,with a two-tone polycarbonate shell andcurved back panel to gush over. It's a shame ,then, that the phone's cheerful exterior is let down on the inside . While Windows Phone 8's colourful live tiles are forgiving at first glance, the low resolution of it's 800x400 screen becomes all too clear when browsing the web ,and games and images look faded next to better screens.Pasable, but HTC have cut costs in the wrong places if you ask me.

The combination of WinPhone 8 and a 1Ghz dual -core chip means that everything seems to take 2-3seconds longer on the 8S than on the Android phones.Apps from the Windows Store are still a let down, with plenty of gaps that are only being filled at a rather slow pace.Theres more bad news for thi Windows 8 phone unfortunately. You won't find lots of useful built-in apps either,as you would with Nokia's latestheadsets. The HTC does have the best battey life here though -around 7.5hours and it;s good for anyone who tendsto stick to the web and social networks.

Samsung Galaxy S4 (Android Power)

Android and it's S4

So for those of you that don't know by now Samsung released it's latest smartphone to the world on the 26th of April.

As for the exterior look of the phone it looks identical to the S3 but it has been tinkered and updated. The S4 comes with 4G a 1080p screen as well as a very impressive eight -core CPU, and one of it's most impressive features a touch free control, air gesture and smart scroll and smart pause.

The S4 doesn't just track your fingers,it tracks your eyes as well in a rather sophisticated fashion. With this feature it will now scroll through webpages automatically by looking at which bit of the screen you're reading, and if thats not impressive enough when you watching a video the footage will automatically pause if you look away.
Along with everything else in life this piece of technology has it's pro's and cons so lets get to it.

Pros Of The S4

1. ) This phone has a superb 441ppi AMOLED display, the display hits top of the pile but doesn not stretch further with the HTC One and Xperia Z both having the same  full HD experience.

2.)
1.6GHz octo-core Exynos processor, the largest mobile processor on any smartphone. This is an international processor, for the UK and US; you get the superb 1.9Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor. At this speed, Android will work incredibly fast and expect snappy response time.

3.) The 13MP rear camera on the Galaxy S4 works incredibly well and Samsung has really developed the camera to be something unique and special. The back shooter has many camera software features, so you can take photos in a number of different ways, to capture the best shot.

4.) Android 4.2.2 comes pre-loaded on this smartphone; this is the newest operating system update.

5.) This is under-the-hood, with TouchWiz, Samsung’s personal skin, being shown. TouchWiz has had a lot of opposition but it works impeccably fast and the skin is impressive in some areas.

6.) The Galaxy S4 has a huge host of new features, the phone has an IR blaster to control your TV, NFC to connect with friends, 4G capabilities, Bluetooth, WiFi and all the other bands and networks you would normally find.

CONS Of The S4

  • Samsung has decided to stick with the cheap and affordable plastic for the Galaxy S4. The premium feel users want and get with smartphones like the HTC One and iPhone 5 is not on this smartphone. While the design is light and thin, it just will not feel as nice or look as good as other phones on the market.
  • Samsung has added a lot of funky and odd software and program features, including Air View. These can get in the way and will annoy people looking for a simplistic, one-step solution service. This is the same almost throughout the phone, and there are about seven different ways to take a photo with the Galaxy S4, which can get quite confusing.
  • Battery life on the Galaxy S4 is not the best, the smartphone will not last you a full day if you have extensive use. Of course, you can just swap the battery out for a larger one.
  • The handset will likely come at a top premium price, around the same as the iPhone 5. Samsung show no movement towards making a cheaper smartphone, even though this device costs less than $200 per unit to make, export and sell.
  • If you just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S3 or a Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the Samsung Galaxy S4 will not be a monumental upgrade.
